Albatron PX845G Pro II Motherboard
Posted by: Ben on 31st of July 2002
Receiving a motherboard from a new manufacturer is always more exciting than taking a look at one from the tried and tested big boys, for the simple reason that the review is more important to the company, and you don't know what to expect. Albatron Technology is one such new player in the hardware market, and have decided to jump straight in the deep end and try to take on the lucrative, but picky, elite user market straight away. As the name suggests, their PX845G is a Pentium 4 motherboard based on Intel's latest and greatest 845G chipset. This new revision brings with it a host of great features, perhaps the most important of which is its ability to officially support Intel's newest range of 533MHz processors, but USB 2.0, 6-channel AC97 audio and DDR 333 support are also important additions. The name "Albatron" comes from “Albatross” and “electronics” and the company's self-proclaimed mission is "to move on bravely and soar to great heights." Albatron Technology are actually the IT division of Chun Yun Electronics, who specialise in the design and manufacture of high-resolution TVs, rear projection systems, and plasma displays. Anyway, enough chit-chat, on to the review, starting with a look at the box.

With its silver and copper design, the Albatron box is certainly a striking one, and a very attractive design for such a new company. Opening the box reveals the following contents:

- An instruction Manual
- A promise RAID instruction Manual
- 3 rubber coated ATA133 IDE cables
- 1 Floppy Cable
- 1 quick-start guide sheet
- 1 USB 2.0 backing plate with 4 ports
- A driver/utility CD.

You can find Albatron motherboards in a number of high-end manufacturer’s complete systems in the US, although I cannot yet find a stockist of the boards themselves. Keep an eye on their "where to buy" page for updates, since as you will soon find out, the PX845G Pro II is one to look out for.
