Introduction
For the last five years the FPS genre has been dominated by the multiplayer deathmatch shooter. Single player epics have pretty much been relegated on the side lines whilst this deathmatch phenomenon takes hold. How long this phase in the FPS genre will continue no-one knows, but with the arrival of traditional single player orientated FPS’s such as the excellent Far Cry, and the approach of Half Life 2 and Doom 3, will this phase finally be facing some serious competition?
Does Unreal Tournament 2004 however show that there’s still a lot of life left in the deathmatch shooter? Or is this ‘phase’ finally about to die off?
Compatibility
Clearly UT2004 is designed with top specs in mind. Although I think the recommend specs are somewhat optimistic if you can handle playing on 800x600 then it’s your choice. Although an upgrade to somewhere near mine will mean playing at the beautiful 1280x960 with 32bit colour and full hardware options, which is pretty damn fine!
