Introduction

This is the beginning of what will be a long and fascinating journey in the land of Morrowind. Morrowind is the third installment in the Elder Scrolls series of role-playing games from Bethesda Softworks. The game takes place on the island of Vvardenfell, which has been named the Province of Morrowind by the Empire since its annexation. Because the action takes place on an island, you might think that the game world is small. Small is the last thing Morrowind is! There is so much that can be done in Morrowind that you can spend all of your time on side quests and never miss doing the main quest at all.

Compatibility



Morrowind will tax a powerful machine in ways no game has before. The amount of detail, the number of objects both stationary and moving, the sounds, all of these are present in almost every scene and require system resources to run them. If you’ve been looking for a reason to get that new graphics card or processor upgrade, this is it. Morrowind will run on a machine meeting the minimum or recommended requirements, but you’ll have to turn down much of the eye candy in order to get it to run well.

What Comes in the Box?
Inside the box you get a color manual, a color map, and the game and construction set CDs. The 32-page manual contains information on character creation, the skill system, combat, and magic. Because the manual is in color, the pictures of the icons that you will be seeing on the screen for the next several weeks (or months) look exactly like the ones in the game. This made it much easier to look an icon’s description up in the manual on those occasions when the tool tip did not provide all of the information I needed.
