Introduction
We’ve tested several members of
OCZ's
flagship line here at OCPrices, and as most of you probably know, we are always impressed with the results. But what if you’re not Daddy Warbucks? How does their more affordable “performance” series compare? Today I’ve got the newest PC4200 Performance series on the test bench to find out.
OCZ has many (perhaps a bit
too
many) lines of DDR. There’s the EL series, Gold and Platinum EL (with corresponding colored heat spreaders) Performance, and Premier series. The Performance series slots in between the flagship EL lines, and entry level Premier series, and feature the same copper heat spreaders as the standard EL line. They are available in single and dual channel packaged kits, and you’ll notice that the dual channel box has gotten another upgrade since our last OCZ review, and looks a lot more professional.

The PC4200 Performance series are actually quite similar to the 2 sets of Gold ram that I’ve tested before, with OCZ’s Hyperspeed technology and over voltage protection, it’s all about one thing: speed. Like the Gold series, these are designed with the 865PE Springdale and 875P Canterwood chipsets, (and 2.4 or 2.6C processors) in mind. If you can hit 250fsb+, this is the ram for you.
